Atlanta Family Benefits from Build Smart, Breathe Easier campaign

Atlanta is listed as the 13th most challenging place to live with asthma, according to a report from the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA).

For the Obele family of Atlanta, life with asthma is nothing new. Two of Joyce Obele’s children, Cindy (11) and Amara (13), have asthma. However, things will change for them soon.

Habitat for Humanity of North Central Georgia (NCG), in partnership with the Build Smart, Breathe Easier campaign, will erect the interior and exterior walls to the Obele family’s new “asthma healthy” home on Saturday, August 13. The Obele family is one of four families chosen to receive a new four-bedroom home as part of the campaign.

HGTV personality and carpenter Carter Oosterhouse will help with the home build. The campaign, sponsored by Merck, is working with the AAFA to spread the word on asthma healthy homes, increasing awareness and providing support and tips for those suffering from the disease.

If you’re interested in volunteering with the home build, visit the Habitat for Humanity NCG page. And as always, don’t forget to check out the volunteer opportunities on Best Self’s website.
