A: The Age-Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS) examined the effects of supplements such as zinc and antioxidants on patients with Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and other eye disorders. This study tested these antioxidants to determine if they prevent the progression of these conditions, and results showed that although the supplements do not stop AMD from developing, they reduce the risk of vision loss by 19 percent.
