Dr. Katerin A. Ortiz from Marietta Eye Clinic answers a reader’s question about vision.
My child is near-sighted. Is there anything I can do to stop his vision from getting worse?
The old tale that children should eat carrots to have good vision is correct. Carrots are high in Vitamin A, which is essential for good vision, as are all green vegetables. Another tale that children should not wear their glasses because their eyes will get weaker is false. Studies have shown that not wearing your glasses increases the prescription faster, so your child should wear his/her glasses as directed.
