One Best Self reader asked: What can I do to optimize my chance of spontaneous or “natural conception”?
Susan Conway, MD of Georgia Reproductive Specialists says: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle (good nutrition, exercise and avoiding tobacco) is essential. Frequent intercourse (every one to three days) during the six-day fertile window preceding ovulation offers the best chance of success. Specific timing or positions makes no difference, nor does light alcohol or caffeine consumption. The most important thing to remember is that fertility decreases significantly with advancing age. Make sure to see a reproductive endocrinologist if you’re a women over the age of 35 and have been trying to conceive for more than six months.
