Get your taste buds primed and ready for Share Our Strength’s Great American Baking Contest on Wednesday, February 29 at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts Atlanta. This Kickoff event for Share Our Strength’s 9th annual Great American Bake Sale, will be emceed by Jenn Hobby of Q100’s The Bert Show and will feature professional pastry chefs, amateurs, culinary students and children vying to win the title for “Atlanta’s Best Dessert.”
Guests attending the contest can sample the sweet creations of some of Atlanta’s best pastry chefs, sip delicious wines and bid in a silent auction. At the end of the evening, the entries will be judged on originality, taste and appearance and the top three contestants in each category will receives prizes. Tami Hardeman, acclaimed author of “Running with Tweezers” food blog, Mary Moore, founder and owner of The Cook’s Warehouse and Jennifer Turknett, member of the dining team at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution will serve as some of the guest judges. They will be joined by Charles Barrett, the professional category winner of last year’s contest and executive pastry chef at A Legendary Event along with Gretchen George, chef-instructor in Le Cordon Bleu’s patisserie and baking program.
All proceeds will benefit Share Our Strength, a national nonprofit organization who’s working to end childhood hunger by connecting children with the nutritious food they need to lead healthy, active lives. Through its No Kid Hungry Campaign – a national effort to end childhood hunger in American by 2015 – Share Our Strength ensures children in need are enrolled in effective federal nutrition programs, invests in community organizations fighting hunger, teaches families how to cook healthy meals on a budget, and builds public-private partnerships to end hunger, both nationally and at the state level.
Tickets to the Great American Baking Contest judging event are $35 per person and begin at 6:30 pm and include a dessert and wine reception with Jenny Hobby. Tickets are available at www.strength.org/bakingcontest and are tax deductible.
