From Fit to Fat

Tramell Smith, Atlanta local and owner of Total Nutrition and Training, embarked on a transformation of a different kind for an episode of the new A&E TV show “Fit to Fat to Fit.” To better understand the struggles of weight loss, “Fit to Fat to Fit” challenges exercise professionals to pack on extra pounds and then take them off. Over the course of four months, Tramell gained 70 pounds, then proceeded to work alongside two of his clients as they all tried to shed the excess weight through strength training and balanced nutrition…all while the camera rolled. Now, he has a new perspective from that weight loss journey and he shares tips to boost fitness success.

Tramell’s Tips for Success

During my years as a Personal Trainer and Sports Nutritionist I have tried many techniques with my weight-loss clients and some have worked better than others. During this experiment, I most definitely pulled out all the stops to ensure success, not only for myself but also for my clients. Some favorite tips include:

1. Drink More Water

When trying to get in shape it is super important that we drink enough water to ensure that our body is functioning correctly. I generally recommend that my clients drink 1 ounce of water per pound of bodyweight per day. (So if you’re 150 pounds, you should be drinking 150 ounces of water daily!)

2. Keep a Clean Gut

The use of probiotics in the form of pills, yogurts and drinks like Kombucha and raw, unfiltered apple cider vinegar will provide good bacteria in the intestines which helps gut health.

3. Car-Free Breakfast

I encourage my clients to eat a breakfast of protein and fats only.
