As we gear up for our 6th annual Over 40 & Fabulous! contest, we have decided to check-in with our previous winners to see what they are up to now.
Since becoming one of our 2013 Over 40 & Fabulous! top 10 winners, Doug Barron is still the Executive Director of the Georgia Ovarian Cancer Alliance (GOCA), a Sandy Springs based nonprofit whose mission is to provide educational and awareness initiatives that will empower women of all ages, their families, and the healthcare community to recognize the risks and symptoms of ovarian cancer and the importance of early detection and treatment.
Through annual signature events such as the Shaken, Not Stirred Gala and The Teal Trot 5K the nonprofit has been able to able to raise almost a million dollars over the past two years to expand their programs and outreach across the state. Through these education and awareness programs an estimated 2.75 million people will see the GOCA logo and words ovarian cancer. There is no test for ovarian cancer. Education and awareness is the key to early detection and treatment which is so vital to surviving this horrible disease.
