Breast Reduction - Y PlasticY Plastic’s breast-reduction patients are some of the happiest people we see after surgery!  In fact, breast reduction can literally be life-changing, freeing women from years of pain, infection and a poor self-image.

Our patients would tell you that large breasts can be painful and bothersome.  Problems can include the burden of carrying the weight, which many times etches grooves into shoulders from over-burdened bra straps.  Upper-back and neck pain can also develop, and the breasts themselves can become painful.  Constant moisture from the breasts resting against the chest and stomach can cause skin infections.

Large breasts can also be emotionally taxing, especially when they occur in younger, school-age girls.  Many times, women go to great lengths to camouflage their chest or get the support that they need, which makes shopping for clothes or bathing suits quite challenging.  Large breasts have a tendency to make women look heavier than they actually are.

Dr. Asaf Yalif - Y PlasticLarge breasts can develop during puberty or at any time.  The over-development is often related to hormonal changes and often not responsive to weight loss.

Happily, we do have surgical options for patients who are suffering physically and emotionally. The techniques are aimed at removing excess breast tissue and creating a more “physique-appropriate” breast contour. At the same time, we can relocate the nipple and areola to a more natural position.

Surgery is not without risks, but patients are usually able to breastfeed after breast reduction if they wish to. They can also continue to be screened for breast cancer in a normal fashion with mammograms and do not have a higher cancer risk.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss all the surgical options for breast reduction, as well as the risks and benefits, with you in a complimentary consultation.

Dry Eye Treatments - Symptoms of Dry EyeDo your eyes water, look red or feel irritated regularly? Do they feel fatigued or become blurred during daily activities? You could be one of the nearly 5 million Americans who are estimated to have dry eyes.

What is dry eye?

Dry eye occurs when our eye does not produce enough tears or the appropriate quality of tears to keep the eye healthy and comfortable.

What are the symptoms?

Symptoms of dry eyes can include the following: stinging or burning eyes, scratchiness, stringy mucus in or around the eyes, excessive eye irritation from smoke or wind, excess tearing, difficulty wearing contact lenses and momentary or persistent blurring of vision that may fluctuate with each blink.

Dr. Just Wilkin - Marietta Eye ClinicHow is dry eye diagnosed?

An eye exam that includes a complete history of your overall health and your eye health can help your doctor diagnose the cause of your dry eyes. In addition, your doctor may measure the volume and quality of your tears through a series of tests to examine the rate of tear production under various conditions and certain patterns of surface eye dryness.

Can dry eye be treated?

Absolutely. Our Marietta Eye Clinic dry eye specialists offer a wide variety of treatment options to minimize or eliminate the harsh side effects of dry eye syndrome. The right treatment for you will depend on what is causing your condition. Schedule a comprehensive eye exam to find out for sure.

Dr. Curtis and Dr. Griffin - The Griffin Center of Hair Restoration and ResearchPreserving Your Hair with Proper Hair Care

According to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, an estimated 35 million men and 21 million women are currently experiencing some degree of hair loss. At The Griffin Center of Hair Restoration and Research and The Griffin Center for Women’s Hair Loss, many of our patients ask if there is something that they can do to help keep it from happening. While there are certainly a variety of medications and advanced hair restoration treatments that can help, simply avoiding a few hair care dangers can help preserve your hair’s fullness or even prevent some common forms of hair loss.

Avoid Tight Hairstyles

While it is fine for people to occasionally wear their hair back in ponytails, braids, or “man-buns,” the tension of these tight hairstyles can, with excessive use, potentially cause permanent damage to the frontal hair follicles. This eventually results in a condition called traction alopecia, which leaves behind areas of obvious thinning along the front and sides of the scalp.

Avoid High Heat

When the hair is excessively dry, it can be prone to breakage and split ends, and nothing dries out the hair strands faster than heat. The concentrated heat from curling irons, flat irons, or hair dryers can be extremely damaging and should be avoided if at all possible. We recommend that you dry your hair using medium or even low heat settings if necessary, and if you are getting your hair done in a salon that you ask your hairdresser to use cooler air to dry your hair as well.

Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Many of the products that people use on their hair can also cause damage. Chemical treatments, like gels, dyes, and relaxers, can weigh hair down, making it weaker and prone to breakage. Even harsh shampoos can potentially strip away the oils that keep the hair healthy. If your hair is naturally dry, it is probably only necessary to wash it every two to three days, and we recommend using sulfate-free shampoos and conditioners to preserve the hair’s vital natural oils.

If you are concerned about your own hair loss, you are welcome to schedule a consultation with The Griffin Center’s experienced hair restoration specialists, Dr. Edmond Griffin and Dr. Ashley Curtis. Together we can put together a treatment plan that may include anything from specially formulated vitamins and prescription compounds, to advanced preventative measures like platelet rich plasma and red light laser therapy, to full hair transplantation surgery, depending on which approach is right for you.
