We are celebrating our third anniversary of Best Self Atlanta this April. What started as a magazine for Atlantans looking for self-improvement solutions has become so much more than we could have imagined.
What we discovered is our city is full of interesting, inspiring people who love to feel, look and do good for others. We reached out and connected with you and you in turn have connected with each other. Our most recent numbers estimate we are connecting over 300,000 Atlantans monthly through the pages of our magazine, social networks, website, e-newsletters and hundreds of events.
The biggest surprise of all? When we started Best Self Atlanta, we thought we would be the messenger of inspiration, but in fact – you, the Best Self community, have inspired us with your triumphs, successes and stories of change for the better.
None of this would be possible without the support of the Best Self business community. With that said, I want to give a special shout out to our Founding Partner advertisers who embraces the vision in its infancy; Gardner Dermatology & Med Spa, VeinInnovations, Atlanta Smiles & Wellness, High Country Outfitters, Atlanta Center for Cosmetic Dentistry, Carter Barnes, Institut’ DERMed, Aesthetic & Dermatology Specialty Centre, Vinings Surgery Center, and Pig-N-Chik and to all of the Best Self community businesses dedicated to helping you be the best you can be.
Hot Yoga: I am hooked on hot yoga and my favorite place so far is Ember Yoga Studio in Woodstock. I took hot yoga a few years ago and I am not sure whether it was the place or the instructor, but I didn’t have a great experience. Encouraged by a good friend, I decided to give it another try and now, I get it! The stretch and strengthening movements are just what my body needs and the warm temperature creates an environment to work up a good sweat. It’s this combination that has made me to fall in love with this workout. I can’t say enough good things about Ember Yoga Studio – amazing atmosphere, knowledgeable instructors (my instructor pictured left, Reggie Jones), great clothing and perfect ambience. Jane Iredale Loose Powder Foundation makeup: This mineral makeup is the only powder foundation I have ever used that gave me complete coverage without having to also use a liquid foundation. It also offers an SPF protection of 20 and was recognized by The Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective aid to help protect the skin from sun damage. This product is not new, but I have recently discovered it and I love it. If you are looking for the perfect mineral foundation, you should give this one a try. Visit Jessica Kisielewski, makeup artist at Institut’ DERMed, for a professional application. Details: Available at Institut’ DERMed, www.idermed.com
Loofah Arts Kitchen Scrubber: I know, who gets excited about a kitchen scrubber, right? Well this one is really cool. It’s gentle enough to clean fruits and vegetables but tough enough to scour stubborn pots and pans. One of the driving motivators of the Loofah Art Foundation is to help provide both humanitarian and economic support to impoverished farmers and their families in developing cultures. The growing of loofah not only helps save the land from ecological erosion, but employs farmers, craftsmen and local technicians who hand process the products and package them for shipment. They are made of 100% natural loofah, 100% natural vegetable dye coloring, and are 100% non-toxic and bio-degradable. Details: Available at Publix, starting at $3.99.
