Spot On: Skin Cancer Awareness Month

Dr. Asaf Yalif - BSA 0516

The American Cancer Society® designates May as National Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month--with Monday, May 2, as “Melanoma Monday” and Friday, May 27, as “Don’t Fry Day.” As the weather warms up and you start wearing shorts, swimsuits or sundresses, make sure to put on sunscreen and take note of any new spots on your skin.

Dr. Asaf Yalif of Y Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery offers this tip:  “A simple approach to screening can be to make a routine of examining your skin about every month or two. This way, when a new lesion/spot appears, you can monitor it or, if concerned, schedule an evaluation with your doctor earlier rather than later.”
