Joseph and Friends Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa’s Stephanie Crystal is here to give you her best advice on how to get your skin ready for summer.
What element of skincare should people pay extra attention to for summer?
Moisturizer! Skin tends to be drier during winter, so heavy moisturizers are widely used. But as the mercury rises, a lighter moisturizer with SPF may be enough as skin produces more sebum during warmer months.
If someone is looking to revamp her skin, where can she start?
Cleansing facials, peels or microdermabrasion every few weeks are great ways to revamp dull skin. But good home care is equally – if not more – important.
What should someone avoid overdoing?
Exfoliation. Too much too often can damage skin, leaving it susceptible to acne and scarring. Depending on the product, estheticians recommend exfoliating one to three times weekly.
What do you do personally to get ready for summer?
I look forward to a gentle enzyme peel for deep exfoliation of my winter skin.
What colors and products are hot this summer season?
Aveda’s Culture Clash Makeup Collection for 2014 features eye palettes such as Burnished Bronze, Seafoam and New Lilac, with jasmine and geranium for petal-soft texture and velvety finish.
