One in four children in Georgia don’t have enough to eat. Without the small security of free or reduced lunches at school, summer can often be one of the hardest times of the year for these children.
The Taste of the Nation tour is just one of the ways Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry® campaign makes strides in achieving its goal of ending child hunger in America. The tour returned for its 2016 Atlanta stop at the Georgia Aquarium. Surrounded by stunning aquatic life, more than 50 of the city’s most revered chefs (Karatassos, Rathbun, Gillespie and Hopkins just to name a few) and restaurants served up a variety of bite-sized delicacies such as black truffle potato gratin, pork belly tacos and creamy crab bisque.
While wine and whiskey flowed, over 1,000 guests enjoyed musical performances by Ed Roland of Collective Soul, Joe Gransden Quartet and pint-sized powerhouse Angelica Hale. The live auction got a rocking kickstart when Roland auctioned off the very guitar he used to perform that evening. Other lucky guests laid claim to live auctions items such as an exclusive two-night stay at the St. Regis in New York City, a Big Green Egg complete with a private cooking class by Chef David G. Rose and a dinner party for 12, and a takeover over of popular Atlanta brewery SweetWater for the winner and 50 of their closest friends. Hailed as one of Atlanta’s hottest events of the season, Taste of the Nation has raised more than $10 million since 1989 to provide healthy and nutritious meals to hungry children.
