Cosmetic Injectables: An Overview

Q. What is the difference between Botox® and Dysport®?
A. Most have heard of Botox®.  Botox® Cosmetic is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to improve the look of moderate-to-severe frown lines between the brows.  Dysport® from Ispen is a botulinum toxin, similar to Allergan’s Botox® cosmetic.  Dysport® is a botulinum toxin which works by binding to the nerve endings and blocking the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that sends signals back and forth to the brain to contract the muscles.  The cosmetic use of Dysport® involves its injection into the facial muscles that when contracted, cause the glabellar lines, the frown lines between the eyebrows, to relax thereby reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Q. What is Juvederm® Ultra Plus?
A. Juvederm® Ultra Plus Injectable gel is a colorless hyaluronic acid get that is injected into facial tissue to smooth wrinkles and folds, especially around the nose and mouth.  Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body.  The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding water and to act as a cushioning agent.

Q. What does it do?
A. Juvederm® Ultra Plus Injectable gel temporarily adds volume to facial tissue and restores a smoother appearance to the face.

Q. What will it accomplish?
A. Juvederm® Ultra Plus Injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds.  Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing and the results last about 6 weeks.
