Cosmodontics 101

What is cosmodontics? Cosmodontics is a term coined by our office, Atlanta Smiles, to describe the process of cosmetically straightening teeth in a relatively short time.  Many patients have worn braces and their teeth have relapsed – who wants to wear braces twice?  We have the expertise and knowledge of using a variety of methods to achieve minor tooth movement in a short period of time.

Who qualifies for minor tooth movement? Cosmodontics focuses on the anterior teeth, which include the upper and lower front six teeth.  Should you need full orthodontic treatment, a consultation with your orthodontist is recommended.

What are the methods of treatment? Post-graduate orthodontic training, allows us [doctors] to have the most innovative information and tools to solidify our craft.  There is an assortment of treatments used to complete minor tooth movement; Atlanta Smiles practices retainers, Invisa-clear and brackets.
Retainers are the most commonly known treatment and usually follow after braces.
Invisa-clear are custom-fitted retainers that have the ability to reshape your teeth, along the same lines as Invisalign®.  If you prefer a more modest treatment, this would be your ticket as they are virtually hidden.
• Brackets can also be used to quickly straighten for more advanced movement.  These are placed on the upper and lower front six teeth, however are not considered your traditional braces.

There are many advantages to using cosmodontics, including its short time frame, comfortable wear and a more conservative approach.  In just 12 to 24 weeks, you can have the straight, beautiful smile you have always wanted.
