Porcelain Veneers, also known as laminates, are custom-designed shells, artistically created to resemble a natural tooth. They are bonded over your own teeth to straighten, whiten and lengthen, giving you your best smile.
Many people find the idea of veneers vs. bonding a more complex decision. Simply put, bonding is typically recommended for minor tooth adjustments, while veneers are used for the more sophisticated cases. Should you have significantly discolored teeth, heavy wear and tear, broken teeth, large gaps or teeth that aren’t the same size or shape, veneers would be better recommended.
Veneers can be completed in just 2-3 appointments with you doctor. A consultation is recommended to answer any of your questions and create the best treatment plan for yourself. The second visit is when the physical work begins; the teeth are shaved down and the temporary veneer is placed on top, same idea as a place holder. There is a common misconception that because these are referred to as ‘temporary’ veneers, they won’t hold, however they are placed with very sturdy glue and in some cases can last a few years. The final visit is to seat your permanent veneer, removing the temporary and replacing with the custom-made tooth.
The true art in aesthetic dentistry is designing and creating a beautiful smile in which everyone thinks that your veneers are your natural teeth. Consult with your dentist to find your best smile.
