The scoop on what’s new around Atlanta.

Everyday Heroes

Put on your running shoes and best superhero costume and join in the fun at Strong4Life Superhero Sprint on June 7 at Piedmont Park. This annual event benefits Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Strong4Life movement, dedicated to reversing the epidemic of childhood obesity. Enjoy a 5K and one-mile fun run, costume contest and more.

Get Pampered at the Atlanta Women’s Expo

Atlanta Women's Expo

If you’re like most women, it’s far past time for a pampering session. Plan to attend the Atlanta Women’s Expo on June 7 and 8. This two-day event includes shopping, delicious food, fashion shows, free health screenings, cooking demonstrations and even relaxing facials. You can stroll through 275 exhibits at the Atlanta Convention Center at AmericasMArt along with thousands of other attendees looking for tips and products to help them look and feel their best.

Best Pet Selfie Photo Contest

Best Pet Selfie

We let them sleep in our beds. We feed them healthy food. We dress them up and show them off to friends and family. No, they’re not our kids – they’re our pets! It’s time to show your four-legged babies some extra love this month in our Best Pet Selfie contest. Between May 15 and June 1, snap a selfie with your pet and email it to [email protected] or upload it to our website. Then from June 16 to June 30, vote on Facebook for the cutest pets. The top three winners (determined by votes on Facebook) will receive up to $500 for their pet-related charity, plus a prize package to pamper their pets. The contest will end with a pet-friendly party on the deck at Nancy G’s Café.

Summer Reading

The One and Only

While the kids study the classics, give yourself a literary treat this summer by reading Emily Giffin’s new book. On May 20, Atlanta’s own New York Times bestselling author of “Something Borrowed” and “Something Blue” releases her newest work, “The One and Only.” Protagonist Shea Rigsby is forced to reexamine her life choices when an unexpected tragedy comes up in her tight-knit community of Walker, Texas.

Band Together at Race for the Cure

On May 10, join 14,000 Atlantans at Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta‘s Race for the Cure. This year, the race starts from Lenox Mall and welcomes survivors and supporters of all ages and fitness levels. Wear a tutu as part of Komen’s Do You Tutu? campaign, and be sure to add a neon pink headband to your race day outfit. The “Band Together” campaign will kick off at the race and will encourage hundreds to band together in the fight against breast cancer. The six-month initiative will end in October with proceeds benefiting Komen Atlanta. Sponsors include Best Self Atlanta, Kaiser Permanente, Gardner Dermatology & Med Spa, Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine and Vein Clinics or America. Follow us on Facebook to learn how you can get your pink headband and give back.
