Best RX: What should I do if I experience a Heart Flutter?

Atlanta’s local doctors provide answers to all your medical questions. One Best Self reader asked: What should I do if I experience palpitations or “heart flutter”?

Reaz Siddiqui, MD from WellStar Shallowford Medical Center answered: Although palpitations are often caused by factors as simple as excess caffeine or stress, it can be an indicator of serious underlying problems such as anemia, thyroid disorders, heart problems and many others. It is very important to see your primary care physician and discuss the problem. Your doctor will try to identify the possible cause of your symptom and then run a few blood tests and possibly order an electrocardiogram.
