Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction - Y PlasticY Plastic’s breast-reduction patients are some of the happiest people we see after surgery!  In fact, breast reduction can literally be life-changing, freeing women from years of pain, infection and a poor self-image.

Our patients would tell you that large breasts can be painful and bothersome.  Problems can include the burden of carrying the weight, which many times etches grooves into shoulders from over-burdened bra straps.  Upper-back and neck pain can also develop, and the breasts themselves can become painful.  Constant moisture from the breasts resting against the chest and stomach can cause skin infections.

Large breasts can also be emotionally taxing, especially when they occur in younger, school-age girls.  Many times, women go to great lengths to camouflage their chest or get the support that they need, which makes shopping for clothes or bathing suits quite challenging.  Large breasts have a tendency to make women look heavier than they actually are.

Dr. Asaf Yalif - Y PlasticLarge breasts can develop during puberty or at any time.  The over-development is often related to hormonal changes and often not responsive to weight loss.

Happily, we do have surgical options for patients who are suffering physically and emotionally. The techniques are aimed at removing excess breast tissue and creating a more “physique-appropriate” breast contour. At the same time, we can relocate the nipple and areola to a more natural position.

Surgery is not without risks, but patients are usually able to breastfeed after breast reduction if they wish to. They can also continue to be screened for breast cancer in a normal fashion with mammograms and do not have a higher cancer risk.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss all the surgical options for breast reduction, as well as the risks and benefits, with you in a complimentary consultation.
