Pizza Party with a Purpose
As a part of its “85 Acts of Kindness” campaign, Georgia’s Own Credit Union partnered with Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson to treat more than 200 students at Green Acres Elementary School in Smyrna to a pizza party they’d never forget. Wearing one of his signature “Be Your Best Self” shirts, the sports star made a surprise appearance on Friday, Aug. 16 at the school and brought 85 Papa John’s pizzas with him as a reward for the students’ remarkable progress in Georgia Milestones testing, which included a 16.2% increase in math scores. “Many of our kids come from other countries and don’t get to experience celebrations and praise like this for their hard work, and don’t get to meet a hometown hero who is an athlete,” says principal Ashley Mize.
The affair was complete with autographs, selfies, and discussion of favorite types of pizza (Swanson’s is Buffalo chicken, in case you were wondering). Georgia’s Own also donated $8,500 to All Things Loyal, Swanson’s apparel brand, which aims to celebrate the culture, community, and positivity within Atlanta. In keeping with the brand’s dedication to donating a portion of its profits to local nonprofits, Swanson gave an allotment of the monetary gift to Atlanta Children’s Shelter.
