Alkaloid Coworking Offers Up Free Virtual Programs to Manage Anxiety, Share Good News, and More

As the world scrambled to acclimate to the challenges of quarantine and social distancing due to COVID-19, so did Alkaloid founder and operator Katharine Chestnut. By mid-March, Chestnut had rolled out a new all-digital coworking model designed to keep members productive and connected while safe at home. She even took it a step further,  creating free virtual offerings open to the public with an emphasis on health and wellness.

Key virtual offerings include Weekly Mastermind sessions led by local small businesses (topics ranging from tips to manage anxiety from therapist and owner of Blue House Wellness,  to website improvement with Inspry Web Design, and maintaining brand visibility and connection from EllePR). To focus on the positive she also established a Slack channel called #BrightSide where members can share the little things that are making them feel better while isolated at home.

Chestnut is active in a variety of global coworking founder associations and found support from her peers who were also navigating the pandemic. Alkaloid is now proceeding with caution to return to serving members in person, officially welcoming them back into the space starting as of May 11 with strict safety measures. For additional details on Alkaloid you can catch up with on Instagram @alkaloidnetworks.

Starting Up Spa Care with Institut’ DERMed Spa

Institut’ DERMed Spa is once again opening its doors to clients for spa services in a soft reopening. They are following all of the safety protocols and procedures set forth by the Georgia State Board of Cosmetology Safety Guidelines for salons and spas. If you’re looking forward to getting back into your self-care routine, here are some of the safety measures you can expect to see on your visit:

  • Limiting the number of appointments in order to social distance outside of the treatment rooms.
  • Touchless temperature checks for all clients and staff.
  • Answering these questions when scheduling your appointment or entering the spa:

    • Have you had a cough?
    • Have you had a fever?
    • Have you been around anyone exhibiting these symptoms within the past 14 days?
    • Are you living with anyone who is sick or quarantined?
  • You must use the hand sanitation station upon entering the spa.
  • Spa furniture and treatment room chairs will be covered in plastic in order to be sterilized.
  • Staff will be wearing protective gear and changing their smocks after each client session.
  • All spa common areas, workstations, reception area and door handles will be disinfected after each client visit.

This is a soft reopening, so not all services will be available at this time. Here are something to know before your appointment:

  • Steam will not be used during your treatment until the spa is allowed to do so.
  • Massage is limited to the face and back of the neck only for now.
  • Allow our staff to pull your products with their gloved hands.

At this time they are only taking appointments by phone, please call at (404) 261-5199.  Online appointment scheduling will be made available May 31st.

Online product purchasing is still available on their online store and free shipping is available to those unable to travel to the spa using the code SHIP20.

3 At-Home Hair How-To’s from Blo Blow Dry Bar

Getting to the stylist hasn’t been in the cards for the past few months and may have left your hair feeling less than happy. The stylists from Blo Blow Dry Bar have these neat tricks and products to help tame those tresses:

  • For a picture-perfect ponytail, separate your hair into 3 sections, with one on either side each side of your face in front of the ear and the third in the back. Tie the back section into a low pony.  Then take the side sections and pin them into the ponytail. For a little extra volume, try giving soft waves with a 1” curling iron.

  • Get a second-day wear out of your hair by applying a nickel-sized amount of Unite Second Day Finishing Cream to dry hair. Work it through root to tip until the desired texture is achieved. It will help to add grip to clean hair, tame flyaways and provide texture for updo’s.

  • Restore shine and moisturize dry over-processed hair with the Unite 7Seconds Masque. Just like with your skincare routine, incorporate a mask every now and then to moisturize, restore elasticity and adds long-lasting shine, softness and manageability.

Blo Blow Dry Bar has several locations throughout Atlanta so you can get fabulous hair from Buckhead to East Cobb. Blo Buckhead and Blo Ponce will reopen Friday, May 1 and will offer $35 blowouts every day for a limited time! Other locations are slowly opening up for appointments and you can read about their precautionary steps to keep you safe or buy a gift card to use later. For a limited time, when you purchase a gift card of $50+ from a participating Blo location, they will donate a blow out to a local healthcare worker.

How to Get Better Sleep During the COVID-19 Crisis

Sleep is key to maintaining your health and a strong immune system. But in these stressful times, with the loss of a daily routine, homeschooling the kids and worrying about the health of our loved ones, rest may be hard to come by.

Dr. Marianna Kovitch of Atlanta Smiles is an expert in Dental Sleep Medicine and offers these four tips to sleep better during quarantine:

  1. Don’t bring the news to bed. Give yourself an hour long buffer between putting the screens away and putting your head on the pillow.

  2. Keep your daily sleep schedule. Go to bed and wake up at the same times you would if you were commuting to the office. Resist the urge to sleep in and use the extra time in the morning for yoga, meditation, or a family breakfast instead.

  3. Exercise to exhaust your body. Daily exercise, whatever you can get in your schedule will help reduce stress and physically exhaust your body to help you fall asleep easier.

  4. Evaluate your sleep environment. The ideal temperature should be 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit with no lights on and minimal noise.

For more information visit Atlanta Smiles on Instagram here and to schedule a virtual sleep consultation email info@atlantasmiles.com.
