What do attendees need to know before class starts?

You will want to arrive about 10 minutes before class starts to find parking. Park Tavern offers all-day parking for $3. For this specific class, you should wear your best ’80s gear attire if you want to be considered for the free Lululemon outfit prize. They do a different theme every week though so be sure to check out what theme it is for that week prior to going. Be sure to always bring your yoga mat and you can either wear socks or go barefoot for the workout, so no need to wear tennis shoes.

How would you describe this workout? How does it compare to similar classes you’ve taken?

This was a great yoga experience for me. I am pretty new at yoga and Amber’s instruction really got me moving and finding my balance. She took the class through many different yoga poses, pausing for breathing and stretching throughout making the workout comfortable but still challenging. She offered many modifications for some of the newer members so I never felt intimidated or like I couldn’t complete the workout. You can really choose the difficulty of your own workout with this class, so any level yogi is welcomed!

What muscle groups did this class work the most? Was it a great workout for your abs, butt, arms, etc.?

The muscle groups targeted were like many other yoga workouts. You are working your core muscles to build strength, flexibility, and coordination for an hour. It also helps to focus on your breathing the whole way through so you maintain energy and balance.

Did the instructor do anything to make the class extra special?

Amber took the class in a time warp back to the 1980s with her awesome updo and neon pink shirt. Many members of the class followed suit bringing their A game on all things the ’80s. Just think leotards, high ponies, neon colors and of course leg warmers! Such a great atmosphere, and with over 40 people joining in, the class was full of energy. Amber’s music selection was perfect for the ‘80s theme. She played Journey, Earth, Wind, and Fire and more! It was a blast from the past.

How did you feel before, during, and after the workout?

Before I started the workout, I was pretty tired but right when I walked in the doors of Park Tavern, I couldn’t help but get excited. The ’80s theme made everything so much more fun and I really loved how everyone in class would sing along. The yoga workout itself was challenging but nothing a beginner couldn’t modify and master. Towards the end of the class, we did lots of stretching and ended with a 5 minute silent meditation that really helped me relax probably for the first time that day.

Afterward, everyone from the class was invited to enjoy a free beer or glass of champagne downstairs at the Park Tavern restaurant and many took advantage. There was also an ice skating rink and a delicious food menu, so I helped myself to some tater tots. Yum!

What was the most enjoyable part of the workout?

My favorite part about the workout was the atmosphere. The upstairs facility at Park Tavern is beautiful with tons of windows and tall ceilings. The music was funky and uplifting and everyone’s’ choice of attire was so great to see. I loved how everyone decked out for the occasion and really brought the theme of the ’80s together.
